A private wellness community

A ring of stone villas, and the jungle left standing at its center.

Candela was planned around the forest, not in place of it. The villas rise on stone bases along a circular path, and the trees between them were kept. You wake to birdsong, practice in a Mayan palapa, and reach the sea in twelve minutes.

Every stay is built on the pillars of the world's longest-lived communities: meaningful time together, natural movement, nourishing food, purpose, mindfulness, culture and creativity. Choose a villa for your family, or take the whole estate for your group.

The architecture

Built the way the Mayans built: with the land, not on top of it.

Designed by Estudio Macías Peredo, the villas read like temples found in the jungle: stepped volumes on stone plinths, thick walls that hold the cool, and a rooftop open to the night sky, a quiet nod to Mayan astronomy.

Materials come from the peninsula and age into it. Within a few seasons the vegetation softens every edge, and the buildings look as if they have always been there. Inside, Habitación 116 composed calm rooms of wood, stone and linen, with windows that open the house to the breeze.

Chukum
A Yucatec plaster tinted with the resin of the chukum tree, used by the Mayans for centuries. It keeps walls cool and resists water.
Pucté
A dense regional hardwood for frames, shutters and finishes, layered with glass and mosquito screens to ventilate and shade.
Sacbé
The white roads that joined Mayan cities. Candela's circular path follows the idea, connecting each villa through the trees.
Palapa
The traditional thatched shelter. Our yoga shala is one, open on all sides to the jungle.
Recognition

Awarded, published, and lived in.

Candela's villas have been recognized by international design juries and featured in the architecture publications that shape the field. The best way to understand them is to spend a night inside one.
